Dean lake to parry sound
Packed up and ready to go my sister Robin and I took to the road. Across the Dean Lake bridge we turned right onto Highway 17 direction Sudbury.
The ride to Parry Sound was rather uneventful except for seeing some kind of crane like bird walking the roadside near the shores of Lake Huron. I checked my bird book but had to do some further research to identify it as a Sandhill crane or more precisely a Lesser sandhill crane, Grus canadensis canadensis. He or she was just walking along the side of the road.
Just outside of Parry Sound my tank was nearly empty. This is a warning to all who venture this stretch of road. I knew I would not make it to the town so had to stop on the side of the road at a Shell station. Right away the fact that they did not advertise the price of their gas should have been a warning sign but I really needed to fill up. Their price was 15 cents a litre more than in Parry Sound and 10 cents more than a small station a few kilometres south of there. Be warned so as not to be ripped off. I took the time to write Shell when I returned and their first answer was some lame excuse about distance. I wrote them back to challenge that and have not received any response.
We had a quick bite in Parry Sound and continued on taking a little different route back to Haliburton.
*See my inquiry with Shell if you are interested.

Port Carling
Situated between Lake Muskoka and Lake Rosseau, Port Carling is a very affluent town in the Muskokas. The locks created in 1871 between the two lakes contributed substantially to its success as a tourist town. The Muskoka Lakes Association Antique Boat Show (every other year) is an event I have always wanted to attend but I have yet to see it.
There is also a cruise on the lakes which is also a to do on my list of things to do and places to go but for now I will just breeze through the town.
From here we headed across to Bracebridge and back along the 118 to Haliburton. A nice supper with my sister and a good nights sleep and I was out on the road the next morning and on the final stretch home.
So great to get together with family. Mine is so special. The weather was not the best but we made do with what we had and "Oh what a weekend it was!"
