The lilacs are all finished and pretty soon the “Dames Rocket” will fade. but right now it lines the roadside ditches and clings to every spot it can. While considered a weed in the average garden it is a beauty to see in the garden of Nature.
We have been busy trying to reclaim all that we have lost in time during the last few weeks. The weeds grow faster than the flowers and are hard to keep in check so we try to mulch as soon as a bed is done.

With all the cold weather the vegetable garden is struggling and I imagine we will not see a ripe tomato before August.
The garlic, leeks and French shallots seem happy, however, and the lettuce as well. Hopefully the more tender things that got touched by the late frost will come back.

It was a tough winter and we lost several trees. A cherry tree and a weeping Redbud were casualties and also due to the late frost in June it looks like we will not have one fruit from the trees. Currants, and berries seem to have been spared. Time will tell.
This morning I witnessed a newcomer to the pond. A bird that I had seen for the first time in my life. This lovely green heron is much smaller than its cousin the great blue heron who came for a visit later in the afternoon. I must say it is every bit as spectacular. We are so fortunate to see these wonders. I await the annual visit of the belted kingfisher.
The drought has been broken with copious amounts of rainfall in the last few days, and the cooler weather has kept my flowers looking pretty good. This is what the gardens look like these days.
