The last few days has been spent tending to gardens. Flowers out of place, splitting clumps that have outgrown their surrounding and of course weeding.
We have been rewarded with the first of our vegetable garden. Beautiful and tender lettuce, unlike anything you get at the grocery store.

Now the beans have started to arrive on the bushes. They arrive with a bang. It seems one day you look and there are none, the next more than you can imagine.
We grow three types of beans, green french filet and yellow beans (my favourite), and of also scarlet runners. Lunch can be just a plate of beans with a bit of salt and butter. Heaven. From now on it will be picking at least every other day until we exhaust them. By that time we will have had our fill. Beans alone, beans as a side, beans with tofu, the list goes on.

This time of year is always nice to take along fresh veggies from the garden when you go somewhere for a visit. Always appreciated by the recipient. My beets are growing well and the carrots will soon be large enough to pull.
Another favourite are fingerling potatoes. Just dug up the first of our little ones. It was a feast that we had last night with stir-fried veggies with tofu and chicken and fresh baby potatoes on the side.
Some of my other garden favourites are not yet ready. The weather has been a bit cool and the tomatoes are not quite ready. It should give us time to harvest the garlic and shallots. Once ready what could be better than a plate of fresh tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, chopped shallots and basil all drizzled with good olive oil. Perfect for a summer day.
Each time something new is available I become quite fickle and it becomes a new favourite. Pictured below are some of our garden offerings just getting ready to be meals on our plate, or if not a meal certainly part of it.

Today my sister happened by for a visit with us. My daughter and her husband are here to see us as well. We were all treated to a wonderful lunch prepared by my husband.
Fresh tomatoes, garlic, basil and feta cheese on fusilli pasta. It was delicious!
